Coastal RetreatsIdea Archives

Unexpected color combinations add intrigue to the exterior of the coastal abode. Just as you would explore unusual color groupings for the home interior, treat the coastal exterior to the same creative color consideration! Refreshing jewel tones are increasingly popular selections that are currently being used to spotlight coastal exteriors.

If you unwilling to take the “complete” color plunge into the liberal use of jewel tones, consider a more conservative approach. Interjecting touches of dynamic jewel tone color to trims and architectural features is a less obvious alternative that produces similar stylish results. For example, a splash of exotic melon added to outdoor shutters or a touch of icy raspberry used to frame exterior window trim often represents the single ingredient that transforms a nondescript seaside structure into a captivating home.

House painted in "seascape" color schemeUse multiple trim colors to add unique style to the exterior of coastal home exteriors. Rather than applying simply one exterior trim color, go for the gusto and consider applying two or three trim colors to the exterior of the coastal retreat! Depending on the dominating exterior color, there are endless ways for paint to expand outdoor color horizons

For those homeowners who lean toward colors that blend in with the natural seascape, consider implementing several blues, greens and sand tones to the exterior facade. Color selection may consist of vibrant, muted, or deep hues. The key to successful color selection is to stay within the same tone of paint colors, e.g.. all deep tones or all muted. For help with deciding which color work best together, visit our Digital Color Wheel.

In all cases, the selection of top quality, 100% acrylic trim paints will ensure your colors last as long as possible. The pigments used in exterior paints will eventually fade, especially in the intense sunlight of coastal communities, but with 100% acrylic binders in that paint, your colors will look fresher and brighter longer.
