Brighten Your Moutain Retreat with PaintIdea Archives

For a minimal financial investment, a dark mountain getaway can be visually brightened using imagination, color and paint!

If your slice of mountain heaven lacks an ample number of windows and natural light, consider adding any of today's hottest neutrals to existing wall coverings. Earthy mountain hues such as sand, stone, wheat and linen represent light colors that easily coordinate with virtually any palette and introduce a hint of up to the minute color. Low ceilings represent a decorating challenge for any style retreat. Visually raise the low ceiling by applying a paint color that is one or two shades lighter (using the same color intensity) than the walls. Similarly, brightening slightly damaged wood floors can be achieved by applying a whitewash paint technique using a light tone to add natural, rustic elegance within the existing space.Kitchen table

Liven up a lackluster mountain retreat with one or several of these paint application ideas:
? The look of "faux logs" can be applied to any number of surfaces. Consider applying the technique not only to wall coverings, but also to unfinished wood furnishings, large nondescript decorative accessories or dated cabinetry.

? Dark wall paneling can be festively painted using any color of the rainbow. Seek the advice of a paint professional regarding the use of proper primer, paint and sealant for long lasting enjoyment or for immediate answers check out our prep, prime and paint section.

? The currently "hot" combination of stone and log surfaces can be achieved at a fraction of the cost with the application of special effect paint treatments. A skilled do-it-yourselfer can incorporate both treatments side by side for any number of effects. Bring to life an oversized armoire in a rustic bathroom where linens are stored or create a focal point amongst a dining table and chairs within a country kitchen.
