Add autumn Ambiance to your Thanksgiving Tablescape and Dining Room

table decorated with fruitLet Thanksgiving be a memorable event by adding unforgettable decorative enhancements to the holiday table and dining room. With the help of color, texture and a few dynamic accessories, the holiday gathering will linger in the memory of family and friends!

Color has a powerful impact on the way things are perceived. Begin your project by compiling a list of colors that you most favorably associate with the Thanksgiving holiday. Let this color palette be the basis for your tablescape décor. Deep, rich tones that add elegance to the Thanksgiving dining table may consist of burgundy, cinnamon, mustard, maroon, terra-cotta, and chocolate- just to name a few. Create a simple centerpiece using natural picks in an unexpected way. Consider arranging acorns, pine cones, mini gourds or pumpkins on an ordinary glass or wooden platter.

Use paint to go the extra mile and transform your dining room walls into a warm, inviting environment. Following your selected palette, choose dramatic colors for walls such as deep reds which stimulate the appetite, other autumn tones or warm neutrals such as ivory or taupe that go well with any seasonal color scheme. With the new Low Odor paints, you can even paint a few days before your guests arrive, and still have guests enjoy the smell of Thanksgiving dinner and not the paint. As always, choose high quality, low odor paints for the best performance both during and after application. Dining Room

Have fun painting your natural picks and transform your centerpiece into a bold, focal point! Select one or two colors from your Thanksgiving palette and start painting! For added punch, arrange natural picks on a three-tiered cake plate stand, layering each row with a distinctive item.

Add further color with decorative table enhancements. Paint several empty coffee cans using your Thanksgiving color scheme. Fill each can with fresh, silk or dried autumn blooms. Scatter the mini arrangements on the dining table and buffet side bar. Create a custom place setting for each individual in attendance. Paint inexpensive, tiny terra cotta pots (purchased from the garden center, discount or craft store) and customize with each guests name.

Bring color and texture to the tablescape by slip covering your dining chairs with ready-made slipcovers. Available in an array of solid colors, opt for a contemporary neutral that will blend with your existing dining area year round. Today’s neutrals include stylish hues such as taupe, ivory and various shades of blue and green. Washable slipcovers are available in casual fabrics including cotton and chenille, or more formal fibers such as velvets and velour.

Once you have added color and texture by means of decorative enhancements, it becomes a snap to incorporate existing tablecloths, placemats, runners, serving pieces and glassware into the Thanksgiving mix. You just may find that the Thanksgiving celebration becomes an annual tradition at your home!
