MIRRORS

Question
How can I paint the glass of a mirror?

Answer
To paint the surface of a glass mirror, first wash and rinse the surface. Then lightly sand the surface with fine grit (#220) aluminum oxide sand paper; then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Wear eye protection and a good dust mask while doing this procedure. Next, apply a primer: this can be an alcohol-based pigmented primer or a latex universal stain-blocking primer. The alcohol-based type will provide the best adhesion to the mirror. If using an alcohol-based primer, keep windows open while applying, and wear eye protection and rubber gloves. Apply with a good quality natural bristle brush. Allow to dry several hours. If using a latex primer, apply with a 2" foam brush. Let the primer dry over night. Then apply a quality interior latex paint in the gloss level you want. Apply the paint with a 2" or 2 1/2" foam brush.
